crowns-stockwell

A dental crown is a custom-made cap placed over a tooth to restore its normal shape, size, and function. They’re essential for several reasons. Firstly, a crown can protect a weak tooth from breaking or hold together parts of a cracked tooth. They’re also used to cover and support a tooth with a large filling. Furthermore, dental crowns can be used to hold a dental bridge in place or cover misshapen or severely discoloured teeth. They can even cover dental implants, adding to their versatility. In essence, dental crowns are a crucial aspect of maintaining dental health, enabling you to chew and speak comfortably.

Unlocking Dental Restorations and Navigating Tooth Sensitivity – 9 Essential Insights for Informed Patients

At SW9 Dental, we grasp the significance of dental restorations in upholding a vibrant smile. Our aim is to equip you with invaluable knowledge that empowers you to make well-informed choices about your oral well-being.

1. The Essence of Dental Restorations

Dental restorations, including dental crowns in Stockwell (also termed dental caps), are bespoke prosthetic devices tailored to rejuvenate both function and aesthetics of damaged or decayed teeth. Engineered to envelop the existing tooth structure, they fortify and safeguard the compromised tooth.

2. Dental Restorations and Their Indications

Dental restorations are recommended for a spectrum of scenarios. These include severe tooth decay that surpasses the scope of filling treatment, fractured or cracked teeth, teeth enfeebled post-root canal therapy, as well as for cosmetic enhancements and smile transformations. If any concerns about your teeth’s condition arise, allow our adept team at SW9 Dental to evaluate your oral health and devise fitting treatment strategies.

3. Building Blocks of Dental Restoration Materials

Dental crowns in Stockwell materialise in diverse forms: porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or hybrid blends. Each material boasts unique merits, durability traits, and visual attributes. During consultations, our seasoned dentists will elucidate available options and guide you towards selecting the most apt material based on your preferences and individual requisites.

4. Navigating the Dental Restoration Process

The dental restoration journey generally involves two appointments. The inaugural visit entails tooth preparation – the removal of decay or impairment and tooth reshaping to facilitate crown placement. Subsequently, an impression of the altered tooth is taken to ensure precise customisation. While the final restoration is crafted at a dental lab, a temporary crown is fitted. The second visit culminates in the replacement of the temporary crown with the permanent version, guaranteeing impeccable fit and aesthetics.

5. Taming Tooth Sensitivity

Post-dental restorations, tooth sensitivity might surface, especially if the tooth’s nerve endured irritation during the preparation stage. This sensitivity is often transient and diminishes within weeks. Should discomfort arise, desensitising toothpaste or prescribed agents can alleviate it. Upholding sound oral hygiene practices and adhering to post-operative guidelines from our dental team is vital.

6. Nurturing Dental Restorations

Diligent maintenance is paramount for the endurance of dental restorations. Robust oral hygiene practices, encompassing bi-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and daily flossing, are non-negotiable. Regular professional cleanings and check-ups at our practice further ensure the well-being and resilience of your dental restorations. Steer clear of chomping on hard items and excessively sticky foods to preclude potential harm to your restorations.

7. Pioneering Dental Technology

Dentistry’s landscape is a continuum of evolution, housing pioneering dental technology and techniques that bestow benefits upon patients. These progressions include digital impressions, CAD/CAM technology for same-day crown fabrication, and refined materials that amalgamate heightened aesthetics with durability. SW9 Dental remains steadfast in staying abreast of these advancements, embedding them in our practice to furnish you with top-tier care.

8. Enduring Gains of Dental Restorations

Dental restorations, such as crowns in Stockwell, serve as guardians of not just damaged teeth’s function but also overall oral health. By fortifying weakened teeth, they forestall further decay or fracturing. In tandem, dental restorations augment your smile’s appearance, amplifying confidence and self-esteem. With prudent care and routine dental visits, your dental restorations can remain steadfast for years.

9. Our Pursuit of Excellence

At SW9 Dental, excellence is our unwavering creed. We champion tailored dental care that resonates with each patient’s distinct requirements. Our accomplished dentists and affable team put patient comfort and gratification at the forefront of every treatment facet. Are crowns Stockwell the right treatment for me?

Once you have had your consultation, we will be able to suggest the most appropriate treatment. However, crowns are a wonderful way to improve the appearance of your smile. They can be used to protect teeth after a root canal treatment or to ensure a denture or bridge is placed securely in your mouth, acting as an anchor for them. If you have discoloured fillings, they can replace these and give you a more aesthetically enhanced smile.

How do crowns work?

When you have a damaged tooth, we will prepare the tooth and then have the crown manufactured to fit over it. The tooth is made from metal, covered with tooth-coloured porcelain. Once this is fitted into position, nobody else should be able to see that you don’t have your natural teeth. The result is aesthetically pleasing, but also enables you to continue with life as normal, eating and drinking whatever you enjoy.

How long does it take to get crowns fitted?

You will need a couple of appointments to have your crowns fitted. During the first appointment, we will prepare the tooth, removing any of the weakened parts of the tooth that need to go before the crown is placed over the healthy part of the tooth. We will then take an impression of your teeth and attach temporary crowns to your tooth, while we have your crowns manufactured for you. During the second appointment, once your crowns have been made to match your other teeth as closely as possible, you will then have the temporary crowns removed and the permanent ones fitted. You should then have a healthy and happy smile that feels and looks completely natural after the first few days.

Is this the only option?

Here at SW9 Dental, we do have other treatment options for replacing damaged teeth and so we will discuss these with you. However, if you decide to have crowns, you could have an aesthetically pleasing smile in just a couple of appointments’ time. We look forward to putting a smile on your face and getting you a healthy one to boot. It’s what our professional and experienced team are keen to achieve and we know that you won’t need to go anywhere else with the treatments we have to offer, so come and see us to get your super smile.

What Is A Crown? And Why Do I Need One?

If you’ve been to see us lately and your dentist has informed you that you need a crown on one or more of your teeth you could be feeling a whole heap of emotions. Crowns in Stockwell aren’t something to worry about, for the most part they are there to help you fight decay and disease and prevent further decay spreading across your teeth. That being said, the prospect of what feels like intense dental work can be intimidating and for this reason we want to take some time to talk you through exactly what a crown is and why you might need one.

crowns-in-stockwell

What Is A Crown?

A crown is essentially a little cap that sits on top of your natural tooth. They come in all different kinds of material these days and can be made to look super natural or more of a statement piece depending on the look you’re going for.

The crown is there as essentially a swimming cap for your tooth! It will help protect weak, decaying teeth from further cracks or even falling apart all together. They are also about to restore teeth that have already begun to break down. Crowns in Stockwell can also be used to help cover and support any teeth that have very large fillings in them and so there isn’t much natural tooth left. Other uses include: dental implants and cosmetic aesthetic both physically and visually.

What Crowns in Stockwell Are Available?

In the past the only crowns available were those that were shiny metal and really stood out and while this has now become a desirable aesthetic in its own right, there are still lots of patients wanting to obtain a slightly more natural look and for this reason porcelain fused to metal crowns were made. These crowns still have the solid structure of a metal crown but are able to be color matched to the patient’s natural teeth, offering a more natural look.

As mentioned you are still able to have metal crowns made from a long list of materials including: gold, platinum, or base metal alloys i.e. chrome or nickel. The great thing about opting for an all metal crown is that they are very long lasting, perhaps the most long lasting out of the bunch of options. They tend not to break, chip or wear in the way that porcelain or resin crowns do.

The Process

For most patients we see the crown fitting process happens in two steps. First of all we need to examine and prepare the tooth ahead of the fitting. We’ll take x rays to examine the root of the tooth and surrounding bone. If we think it’s needed we could decide that a root canal treatment is needed before a crown is fitted.

We need to reshape the tooth in order to make room for the crown, this is done under anesthetic so as to reduce discomfort for patients.

One we’ve reshaped and taken impressions, it’s a case of waiting for the crowns to arrive. We’ll fit these in one visit and you’ll be able to get on with the rest of your week as normal.

How crowns and dental implants can improve the smile

Here at SW9 Dental, we offer a wide choice of treatments that help our patients to get a great smile and enjoy good oral health. Many of our patients opt for crowns Stockwell and dental implants as a means of restoring their smile to its former glory. Here we explain what each of these treatments are and how they can help.

crowns-stockwell

Crowns

Crowns Stockwell are a way to repair teeth that are damaged or have parts missing. Sometimes the tooth has had a sizeable filling, and this has eroded much of the tooth. This erosion can also occur as a result of decay in the tooth.

Decay can be caused by too much sugar in the form of food or drink, or by failing to adhere to a regular oral care routine. Some people are more susceptible to cavities than others and are genetically predisposed to develop them even if they take good care of their teeth.

Crowns Stockwell allow the patient to benefit from their tooth or teeth being restored so that it looks better and is of practical help. We use tooth-coloured crowns to give a completely natural appearance. They are strong and long lasting too, bringing back the normal bite to allow the patient to enjoy all their favourite foods without fear of damaging their teeth.

Dental implants

When the whole tooth or a series of teeth are missing, then dental implants provide an excellent solution that looks great and lasts. They are a way to replace the roots of the teeth and provide a stable and robust base onto which artificial teeth can be placed on a more or less permanent basis.

When a patient has their teeth replaced using dental implants, they do not just get a great smile again. This treatment can also help the patient to retain their youthful appearance. When the gaps where the tooth roots used to be are not filled, the facial structure changes to accommodate them. This results in the patient developing a shrunken appearance in the face and often looking much older than they are. Dental implants prevent these issues from occurring.

Teeth that have been replaced with the help of implants are very natural looking. They can be matched in terms of colour and shade with the rest of the teeth, which means that no one else needs to know that the patient has anything other than their original teeth.

Implants allow the patient to enjoy a better quality of life. They do not have to worry about their teeth moving out of place while talking or laughing and they can eat whatever they like. This is because teeth replaced with implants can be relied on to stay in position and retain their strength just as much as natural teeth.

The patient who gets implants does not need to attend multiple dental appointments. Once the treatment has been completed, they usually do not need to visit the dentist any more than any other patient. Implants often last a lifetime.

A guide to crowns in Stockwell

Here at SW9 Dental, we work with all our patients to treat issues and restore the smile to greatness as well as helping to maintain good oral health.  One of the treatments that many patients benefit from is crowns in Stockwell.  This guide explains what crowns are and the type of patient that it is suitable for as well as explaining how the procedure works.

crowns-in-stockwell

What are crowns?

Crowns in Stockwell are covers for the teeth that are made in the same shape as natural teeth.  They are used to restore teeth that have become damaged as a result of decay or injury and help to give back functionality as well as improving the appearance of the smile.

What type of issues do crowns treat?

Crowns in Stockwell are used to reinforce a tooth that has become weakened due to decay or even just the passage of time.  They can prevent the tooth from breaking down altogether and protect it from further damage if it is cracked.

Sometimes the extent of a filling that is required to fix a cavity means that there is not a lot of the tooth remaining.  A crown can help to replace this and help to keep it structurally sound.

Crowns can also be used to secure a dental bridge or help return the tooth that has had root canal treatment.  Some patients have them fitted after having had dental implants, and others get crowns to improve the appearance of teeth that are very stained and in an unappealing shape.

Different types of crowns

There are several different types of crowns, and what is suitable will depend on the issue being treated and the condition of the teeth and gums.  Onlays and 3/4 crowns only cover part of the tooth, while the more traditional ones substitute most of the tooth and are a more comprehensive treatment.

The procedure for getting crowns

The first thing we do is to examine the tooth that is going to be fitted with a crown.  This examination, along with x-rays, helps us to determine if this is the most appropriate treatment and if the surrounding tissue is healthy enough for receipt of a crown.

In some cases, the patient may have to undergo root canal treatment before getting a crown.  This is much more likely if the tooth is very decayed, the inside of the tooth has become damaged or there appears to be a higher risk that the area may become infected.

The tooth that is going to be crowned is shaped to make it a good fit for the new material.  The degree of shaping that is required is dependent on the type of crown that is being used.  Once this has been completed, we take a mould of the new dimensions of the tooth.  This allows us to create a crown that fits perfectly and that looks as natural as possible.  A short-term crown is fitted until the permanent one is ready.

When the crown is ready, it is secured to the tooth using special cement that makes it a permanent fixture.  It can then be cared for just like a normal tooth.

Restore the symmetry and beauty of your smile with dental crowns in Stockwell

Get your smile back in shape

If you’ve chipped or damaged a tooth, particularly if it is at the front or visible, it can be a serious problem. Not only can it lead to a number of dental problems which often worsen over time, but there are also potential aesthetic implications that can have a far-reaching negative impact. However, by simply contacting us here at SW9 Dental and speaking with one of our friendly and approachable team members about crowns Stockwell we can set you on the right track to getting the tooth repaired and your smile looking even and healthy again in no time.

What are dental crowns Stockwell?

If your tooth has been damaged in some way where the enamel has been chipped – either from injury, decay or any other reason – then you should consider dental crowns Stockwell as a convenient and effective solution. Basically, dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps like moulds that are fitted over the tooth to give it an entirely new exterior. This makes dental crowns a popular option, not only for those whose teeth have been damaged, but also for anyone who has severe dental staining or has recently undergone root canal treatment.

How can I get a dental crown?

If you have a damaged tooth and would like a way to eat and speak freely, without the risk of damaging your tooth further or facing the social implications of unsightliness, then contacting our reputable clinic here at SW9 is your best bet. We’ve been providing cosmetic and restorative dental care to residents of Stockwell and far beyond for years now, and have always made use of the most up-to-date technologies within a relaxing and comfortable environment.

If you are interested in speaking with one of our experts about dental crown treatment or finding out if it could help you, then it all starts with a phone call and arranging a consultation. At your initial consultation with one of our experts, all the details about dental crowns will be explained to you, and our practitioner will make an assessment of your tooth and take any relevant photography or measurements from which your crown will be created.

What are crowns made out of?

There are many different materials from which dental crowns can be made, each of which has its own advantages and drawbacks. Some of the strongest and most reliable materials for dental crowns are a variety of metals such as nickel, gold, chromium and palladium – each of which can withstand the pressure of chewing and eating. However, these crowns are clearly visible within a person’s mouth, which may make them a less desirable choice for some.

If you’d prefer a dental crown that blends in perfectly with your surrounding teeth, then one which is all-porcelain or all-ceramic is the ideal choice. These options are the most natural looking in terms of colour, however, the strength is less than that of a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, which is another good choice for longevity and strength.

The best way for you to fully discover what the multiple options for dental crowns are, or which is best suited to your needs, is to head down to our practice and find out for yourself.

Dental restoration- The Crown

As a dental technique they certainly aren’t new, but they’ve changed a lot. Let’s show you how we do dental caps or crowns Stockwell.

crowns-stockwell

When dental caps were first implemented into dentistry, their intention was function over appearance; the use of gold alloys was not a status symbol but simply the only practical material soft enough to work with, but hard enough to eat with that was also unreactive.

With modern material options, most dental caps are made from a composite of polymers and porcelain. The old techniques of carving down a total piece of material into a cap has long since been abandoned. When we fit crowns Stockwell, the prosthetic is made to fit you, not reshaping the tooth to fit the prosthetic.

After the minimum quantity of tooth has been removed (usually due to decay) we take very detailed measurements of the remaining tooth and the surrounding enamel surfaces.

With the aid of our excellent partner laboratory, a crown Stockwell is fabricated that not only fits securely on the remaining tooth but seamlessly matches its surrounding teeth. With hard-wearing stain resistant composite materials, this leaves you with an artificial tooth that is both functional and will go completely unnoticed.

Crowning should not be taken lightly; they are a significant investment of both time and money and we do not see them as a first option for dental care. But when a tooth is structurally compromised and filling is simply not up to the task, it is an excellent option.

Alternatives to dental caps

Dental caps are dependent on having a healthy tooth to be built on top of. If dental decay has descended into the tooth root , or the root has been disrupted the lifespan of the cap will be severely reduced.

It is also likely that extraction will be necessary leaving dental implantation as the only viable restorative treatment. Dental implants do not require a root to be present and can happily establish themselves in the vacant socket

Long-term care and maintenance

There are no special additional care needs for dental caps beyond the standard cleaning and the 6-month checkup; with normal wear and tear, you can expect a crown to last 15 years. If a crown does become unattached, you should book in as an emergency appointment to have it re-bonded to its underlying tooth. If you do have a bit of night-time sleep grinding, this can result in damage to your tooth cap but as the modern composite materials are actually harder than natural teeth, the opposite tooth may end up taking additional abrasion.

We understand that dental care is a significant investment. We offer a range of financing plans allowing you to break up the cost of treatment. We also work with major healthcare insurers, as well as providing a credit scheme subject to do credit checks.

If you’re curious how we could help you or one of your family members do not hesitate to get in contact with the clinic and we would be happy to answer any of your queries.
